Trauma

Anyone exposed to a traumatic event (e.g., armed conflict, violence in the workplace, natural hazards, sexual attack, or childhood abuse) can feel powerless or out of control. These unresolved emotions can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

PTSD impacts people mentally and physically, causing severe anxiety, unwanted memories, or nightmares that can negatively impact their day-to-day lives. Research suggests people with PTSD are up to 14 times more likely to seek relief through the use of drugs or alcohol, either of which can quickly turn into a substance use disorder.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment

Alpine Recovery Lodge offers specialized treatment for trauma and PTSD as part of our substance use disorders program, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT focuses on the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It targets current symptoms and focuses on changing behavior patterns, thoughts, and feelings, making it difficult to engage in normal daily activities.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
EMDR is a safe and effective psychotherapy and  post-traumatic stress disorder treatment. It  allows people struggling with PTSD to process their core emotions, upsetting memories, and thoughts about the traumatic event in a safe and controlled environment.
  • Medication
Four medications are recommended for treating symptoms of PTSD: sertraline, paroxetine, fluoxetine, and venlafaxine. Depending on your medical history and unique situation, the clinical team at Alpine Recovery Lodge may recommend pharmacological intervention in addition to CBT or EMDR.

If you think you may be suffering from a substance use disorder and PTSD, the skilled clinical team at Alpine Recovery Lodge can help you overcome both with an individualized and comprehensive treatment program. It’s time to restore your healthy mind and body, develop healthy emotional skills and mindfulness, and enjoy long-lasting and sustainable sobriety.
