Benzodiazepine Use Concerns

Review concerns about medicines such as Xanax, Ativan, Valium, or Klonopin.

This is a self-reflection, not a validated screening test. It has no diagnostic score and cannot decide which treatment you need.

Start the check-in

Before you begin

Check recent concerns. Do not change a prescribed dose based on this page. You can leave items blank or stop at any time. More checked boxes do not equal a diagnosis or a higher level of care.

No name, email, or phone number is needed. This check-in does not send your choices to admissions or save them in browser storage. General website analytics may still operate. Use a private device when possible. Printing may leave a copy on your device or printer. You choose whether to contact Alpine.

Need urgent help? If someone is in immediate danger, cannot be woken, has trouble breathing, has a seizure, or may have overdosed, call 911. For suicidal thoughts or emotional crisis in the U.S., call 988. Do not wait for an online result or an admissions call. These tools are not monitored.

Your check-in

Select the items you want help with. Then choose “Show my next steps.” If you prefer, read the guidance below without making any selections.

You can still read each item and the next steps below. Interactive results need JavaScript.

What your answers can help you discuss

Dependence can occur during prescribed treatment and does not by itself mean addiction. Sudden withdrawal can be dangerous.

I take more or take it more often than prescribed.

Tell your prescriber the actual pattern.

I run out early or feel afraid of missing a dose.

Ask your prescriber for help planning safe, steady care.

I mix it with alcohol, opioids, or other sedating medicine.

Ask about interaction risks promptly. Trouble waking or breathing needs emergency help.

I have memory gaps or feel too sleepy.

Discuss these effects with your prescriber. Do not drive when impaired.

I get shaky, anxious, or unwell after missing a dose.

Seek medical guidance before reducing or stopping.

I use pills from friends or outside a licensed pharmacy.

Tell a medical professional because contents and dose may be unknown.

Choose one small step

Do not stop benzodiazepines suddenly. Ask your prescriber about an individual plan; this page does not provide a taper.

Words you can use: “I have noticed a change. I would like help understanding it and making a safe plan.”

Common questions

What if I did not check anything?

That does not rule out a concern. You may still ask a qualified professional about anything that worries you.

Who sees my choices?

This check-in does not submit your choices to Alpine. It does not alert a clinician. If you want help, contact a provider yourself.

Can this tell me whether I need residential care?

No. A care provider needs to consider your health, safety, daily life, support, and preferences before recommending treatment.
